Work in Word and InDesign.Dockly takes care of the rest.

Editors continue working in Microsoft Word and designers in Adobe InDesign — the environments they prefer to use every day. The plugins bring the relevant information, materials, status and actions into that environment, while Dockly handles storage, versions and workflows such as review in the background.

Microsoft Word plugin

For editors, Microsoft Word remains the familiar environment for writing and editing. The Dockly plugin means they do not have to keep returning to the platform.

Based on permissions within the organisation, by title and channel, the plugin shows which articles are available. Editors can immediately see which contributions are ready to start, which can be edited and which are in a particular status.

All relevant information directly in Word

The plugin displays the title, status, current version, workflow information and materials supplied for the article. Editors do not have to look up this information separately in Dockly.

Comments and collaboration

Comments can be added to an article from the plugin. Feedback and additions stay linked to the same article and remain part of the central workflow.

Dockly takes care of the background

While the editor works in Word, Dockly manages central storage, version control, status, workflow and logging. The latest version is always clear.

Tag content for production

The Word plugin makes it possible to tag content. This allows structured content to be passed on to Adobe InDesign or the relevant digital publishing channel.

The editor works Word-first. Dockly tracks structure, versions, permissions, materials and progress in the background.

Adobe InDesign plugin

The same principle applies to designers. From Adobe InDesign, the same permissions and filters make it possible to see which production boards and editions are available, and which articles need layout work, are in review or contain corrections.

Corrections are visible directly in the plugin and can be processed in InDesign. Designers do not have to keep switching between different environments, PDFs or separate correction files.

Articles and advertisements

  1. Select the right article, advertisement, edition or production board.Filter by title, edition, status and available work.
  2. Open the article or advertisement. An article can be opened — from ContentDock or locally — using a blank template, the latest version from the previous edition or the InDesign book from the previous edition. For an advertisement, the template matching the sold format or the linked layout file is opened.
  3. Place the current materials. The plugin communicates directly with the materials folder for the article or advertiser, so the right files are immediately available and versions are tracked centrally.
  4. Process corrections. The status shows outstanding corrections, which can be viewed and addressed directly from InDesign.
  5. Move on to review or production. The finished PDF can be saved directly to the materials folder, returned to the production board or submitted for review.

The designer works entirely InDesign-first, while Dockly continues to coordinate materials, versions, status, production and review centrally.

Review without leaving the workflow

A review can be started directly from the InDesign plugin. Depending on the workflow, the review can be sent to one person or several people, in parallel or one after another.

Feedback and corrections remain centrally linked to the article or advertisement. When a review results in corrections, this is immediately visible in the status within the plugin. Designers can see which items need attention again.

Parallel review

One or more people can be invited to review simultaneously, helping to keep turnaround times short.

Sequential review

Multiple reviewers can be involved one after another when a fixed review or approval sequence is required.

Automatic reminders

Automatic reminders can be configured for a review. Dockly monitors the agreed response deadline and automatically sends reminders at preset times to people who have not yet responded. Editors and designers do not have to chase assessments manually, helping reviews stay on schedule.

Status-driven

New corrections or completed reviews are immediately visible in the status within the InDesign plugin.

One current version

Materials and layout files remain linked to the same central materials folder and version history.

The plugin brings Dockly to the workplace

The strength is not only in connecting Word and InDesign, but above all in bringing important information and actions to the user. Editors and designers do not have to keep searching Dockly for the right production, status, version, materials or outstanding actions.

The plugin makes that information available in the environment they already use and provides smart functions for completing common steps directly there.

The familiar working environment stays. Central control comes from Dockly.

DockConnect

Word-first for editors. InDesign-first for designers.

Dockly connects both working environments to the same central content, materials, version history, workflow, production board and review. Everyone works in the software that suits their role, without losing central control.
